General Atlantic Announces Promotions to Managing Director and Principal

GREENWICH, Conn., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- General Atlantic LLC (GA), a leading global private equity firm, today announced the following promotions to managing director: Jonathan C. Korngold, head of the Healthcare sector; Anton J. Levy, head of the Consumer Media and Marketing Services sector; Christopher G. Lanning, general counsel; Thomas J. Murphy, chief financial officer; Andrew C. Pearson, head of Portfolio Management; and David A. Rosenstein, general counsel. In addition, Sunish Sharma, based in Mumbai, and Xiaomeng (Sean) Tong, based in Hong Kong, have been elected principal.

Jonathan Korngold leads GA's global Healthcare sector. Mr. Korngold has worked in GA's Greenwich and London offices and has been active with many of the firm's public and private portfolio companies, including Saxo Bank where he currently is a director. Prior to joining General Atlantic, Mr. Korngold was a member of Goldman Sachs's Principal Investment Area and Mergers & Acquisitions groups in London and New York, respectively. He earned a B.A. with Honors from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Anton Levy leads General Atlantic's Consumer, Media and Marketing Services sector. Mr. Levy has worked closely with many General Atlantic portfolio companies and currently serves on the board of directors of Dice Inc., Webloyalty, and Zantaz. Before joining General Atlantic, Mr. Levy was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co. where he worked with the firm's technology clients. Mr. Levy received his B.S. from the University of Virginia and his M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, both with highest honors.

Chris Lanning has been general counsel of General Atlantic since 2000. Mr. Lanning works primarily on structuring investments with an emphasis on international and leveraged transactions. He serves as a board member of Webloyalty and Dice Inc. Prior to joining General Atlantic, Mr. Lanning was associated with the law firms of Hunton & Williams and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He holds a B.A. with High Distinction from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Tom Murphy has been General Atlantic's chief financial officer for the past seven years. He manages all aspects of the firm's financial operations. Before joining General Atlantic in 1994, Mr. Murphy was a senior accountant with Deloitte & Touche. He holds a B.A. from Colgate University and an M.B.A. in finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Drew Pearson is head of General Atlantic's portfolio company management process, which includes coordination of the firm's Investment and Portfolio Committees. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 1996, Mr. Pearson was a business analyst with McKinsey & Company, Inc. where he worked with Fortune 500 businesses in the technology and financial services industries. Mr. Pearson holds an M.A./B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

David Rosenstein is general counsel of General Atlantic, having joined the firm in 1997. He represents GA in connection with its investments globally, as well as on general corporate matters. Mr. Rosenstein was previously an associate at the New York law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. Mr. Rosenstein holds a B.A. with Highest Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D., cum laude, from the New York University School of Law.

Based in GA's Mumbai office, Sunish Sharma focuses on opportunities in India and the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Sharma has worked closely with a number of General Atlantic's Indian and global portfolio companies. He serves as a director of Sharekhan and an alternate director on the Hexaware board. Prior to joining General Atlantic in 2004, Mr. Sharma worked for McKinsey & Company, Inc. Mr. Sharma is a gold medalist from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, where he earned his M.B.A. after graduating with honors from Delhi University.

Based in GA's Hong Kong office, Sean Tong focuses on opportunities across the firm's sector areas in the Greater China region. He has worked closely with GA's public and private portfolio companies in China, including Lenovo, Digital China, Vimicro, Oak Pacific Interactive and A-Max Technology, where he is an alternate director on the board. Before joining General Atlantic, Mr. Tong was with Morgan Stanley and Co. in New York. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
